چکیده

The popularity of digital devices has greatly increased the chance of manipulating images on computers. In general, image data can be largely divided into raster format and function format. A raster image is composed by a group of pixels arranged in a square tessellation, with each having a certain value or label denoting the color information. This format is suitable for representing images on modern CRT and LCD displays. However, when raster images are subjected to affine transformations like enlargement, reduction, rotation, and translation, the image quality deteriorates visually in the form of jaggy-ness occurring along the region boundaries (Figure 1). Compared to this, the function format is suitable for representing images that exhibit clear region boundaries. Moreover, the function format has the added advantage that the visual quality of images can be maintained even after being subjected to affine transformations. In our research, a series of techniques on automatic function approximation of raster images have been developed, two of which were published in this journal . In our techniques, contours are traced and their shapes are approximated by a combination of functions including straight line, arc, and quadratic curve. Because our previous works had targeted bi-level or two-labeled images, conventional contour tracing algorithms that focus on a single region at a time during tracing were suffiA Contour Tracing Algorithm that Avoids Duplicate Tracing Common Boundaries between Regions

A Contour Tracing Algorithm that Avoids Duplicate Tracing Common Boundaries between Regions

The authors of this paper have developed a series of techniques on automatic function approximation of raster images, including references [3] and [5] that were published in this journal. In our techniques, contours are traced and their shapes are approximated by a combination of functions including straight line, arc, and quadratic curve. Because our previous works targeted mainly bi...

Computerized analysing system using the active contour in ultrasound measurement of carotid artery intima-media thickness.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE B-mode measurement of the carotid intima-media (IM) thickness (T) based on manual tracing (MT) procedures are dependent on the subjectivity of the reader and the existing automatic tracing procedures often fail to detect the IM boundaries accurately. The purpose of this study was to compare the tracing results of the IM boundaries of the carotid wall with a new automatic ...

Efficient algorithm for obtaining connected components in bi-level images

We propose an efficient method for labeling connected components in bi-level images. The proposed algorithm uses a Deterministic Finite Automaton to obtain chain codes and label component boundaries, and use a tracing technique that is simpler than existing methods. Experiments on various types of images show that the proposed method improves contour tracing efficiency.

Evaluation of Stopping Criterion in Contour Tracing Algorithms

Under the conditions of fasting moving, shape changing and partial occlusion of target, Now mostly tracing algorithms are difficult to get accurate contour of target, for these problems, a novel contour tracing algorithm based on particle filter and fast level set is proposed. Firstly, the particle filter algorithm is adopted to estimate moving target's boundary contour. Then, according to the ...

Memory-based Spatio-Temporal Real-Time Object Segmentation for Video Surveillance

In real-time content-oriented video applications, fast unsupervised object segmentation is required. This paper proposes a real-time unsupervised object segmentation that is stable throughout large video shots. It trades precise segmentation at object boundaries for speed of execution and reliability in varying image conditions. This interpretation is most appropriate to applications such as su...
